Cooking up a storm

It's a beautiful day but I have spent most of it in the kitchen preparing for this dinner party tomorrow. One more thing to do and I'm done for today. But it is such a beautiful day I really should be outside. And here I am typing away in a narcissistic way when I should be outside watering the garden.

Or in the kitchen making crème brulée. Which I have never done before so I am a bit nervous and can't quite psych myself up to do it.

But I do like all of the preparation and planning. I hope we are doing it because we like to sit down around a dinner table with our friends and chat about this and that over a good glass of wine and, hopefully, good food, but maybe it's really just a chance to show off. I do hope not.

Mostly though it's a chance to cook something different. Something you have never done before - like the aforesaid crème brulée. Although there is the theory that you should stick to what you know. Personally I like experimenting with something new - like book group books. I always choose for my book, something I have not read before. And so it is with food. My other mistake is to make too much food. We always have leftovers. Indeed I am toying with inviting the family over on Sunday to eat up the leftovers. But I really don't want to not have enough. That is far worse than lots of leftovers.

We used to have a lot of dinner parties, although some of them were work related. But it doesn't happen much these days. Not sure why because they are fun.

Sorry - I'm rambling and will stop. Quite liked the picture though.
